Emmaline loved watching Quidditch. She wasn’t quite sure what was so cool, fascinating, awesome about it, she just loved watching. Quidditch was amazing. It was kind of inspiring. Taking to the sky, free with the wind in your hair, air in your lungs. How exhilarating... Not that Emmaline knew what any of this felt like. She hadn’t even touched a broom since she was six. The thing took off before she could get a firm enough grip and she ended up spraining her ankle in the process. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. To this day, the only brooms she’s come in contact with are ones used for cleaning. Emmaline shook the thoughts away and leaned back, resting her hands on the bench she sat on. Currently, she sat among the stands, watching Ivette fly around the Quidditch field on her broom. It was impressive. It was days like these that Emmaline wished she wasn’t such a scaredy-cat.
“Woooooo, goooooooo Ivette!” she cheered, cupping her hands around her mouth. The words echoed around the otherwise empty stadium and her words were visible because of the chilly air. Not literally visible, though. Emmaline wondered vaguely where these random thoughts were coming from. She hadn’t been feeling like herself as of late. Seeing Scorpius, for example. What was wrong with her? He was so obviously the wrong sort of person for her. Emmaline’s expression was now some sort of thinking-troubling-thoughts-but-also-wondering-why-she-should-be-worried combination. It was annoying, to say the least. A sudden shiver ran down her spine, knocking her out of her thinking. God, she was freezing. Emmaline crossed her arms over her chest and hunched her shoulders against the wind. Maybe Ivette would be done soon so they could go to the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer or maybe to the Great Hall for an after lunch snack.

She grips her broomstick tightly, the rough fabric of her gloves saving her from a horrible fall. Her back is bent forwards, and her knees clutch onto the sides of the broom as she whizzes around. The cold air is deafening to her ears, and she reckons her face is numb. It doesn't bother her at all; she continues to go on, regardless of what might happen. The broom goes at an amazing speed, and she screams shrilly as the object quickens its own pace. Her hair is whipping across her back, and she's glad its conjured in a tight pony tail. Her scarf had fallen to the floor, and she heeds not the siege of coldness overtaking her neck. Instead she bows her head further as to escape the low temperature, for she curls herself as she dives upwards and back to create a circular motion. When she stops, it is only to concentrate on her grip and her spinning head. She smiles as she whizzes around the stadium.
Flying made her happy. It flies off the worries and she can fly freely without no need of worry on her shoulders. She can't stop grinning at this point, and her lungs are awfully itchy from the extra exposure. Her back is sore, but she can't help but go on; without the fun it would be unbearable. She stops, panting as she smiles at the girl, waving her hand wildly. "Emma!" she crows loudly, chuckling a bit. The Pitch was deserted, and it felt nice to act like herself. Granted, she was herself most of the time, but she opened up with certain people better than others. Perhaps she was judgmental, and it doubts the complex would go away. "Emma!" she screams louder, catching herself a cough due to her poor lungs. She waves her over here, but the idea of here coming was futile; she had no broom, and she would surely fall to her death. It was such a preposterous idea she began to giggle to herself with mirth. "It's cold!" she exclaims with an uneven rasp, "But its so fun!" she zooms forward, to prove her point. "I feel so good!" she exclaims, bobbing her head as she nearly hits the stand. An audible grunt is formed, and her hands become steadier as she flies upward to see the look on her friend's face, the glee evident in her face.

Ivette looked like she was having so much fun. Emmaline grinned, watching as her friend flew through the air, diving and circling, almost to fast to follow. Something caught her eye and Emmaline found that Ivette had lost her scarf during the last loop. Emmaline stood and headed down the stairs, taking them carefully so as not to slip. It was Winter, after all, and that meant snow and ice and danger, in general. Her grip on the railing was tight as she took each step and kept her eyes on her feet. Finally, she made it to the grassy pitch and was disappointed to see that even this had a layer of melted ice and snow. It was official: Winter sucked. Emmaline continued to the middle of the pitch where Ivette's scarf lay. She snatched it up and made her way back to the stands, looking forward to the safety of sitting.
Hearing her nickname called, quite loudly, Emmaline looked up and around for Ivette. Finding her, Emmaline waved back, laughing and hurried up the steps. No longer worried about slipping, Emmaline kept an eye on Ivette to make sure she was still focusing on keeping her balance even as she waved and yelled. Emmaline, making it back to her seat, sat down and sighed, relieved. She was still alive. Finding Ivette in the sky, again, Emmaline laughed and nodded in agreement. "It's freezing," she called back, waving Ivette's scarf in the air to let her know she'd retrieved it. Ivette came closer all of a sudden and Emmaline leaned back, frightened and amused. “Be careful!” she exclaimed, the scolding evident in her tone. It was light, though, and she was soon giggling again.

Ivette had to stop, unsure of the garment Emmaline had picked up. Not a moment occurs until it registers into her mind, and her mouth forms into an 'o' shape. "Oh, alright!" she raised an arm to let her know she was speaking, "Thanks!" She had seen wisps of her hair, but had not really thought much of it and it gave her gratitude for her actions. She grins as she nears the girl, the broomstick uplifted with the rest of her body. She pulls disobediently onto her arm, "Come!" she shrieked happily, "It's so fun! Come on, get on!" and unable to hold herself still with her legs, releases her grip and cambers down beside her with difficulty, groaning as the broom fell with her. She was merely a flyer, not an expert. She hadn't really cared about the wood of the object, nor did she care to figure out which tree its twigs came from. It wasn't exactly enticing, to say the least.
Once she's capable of sitting properly- darn those brooms for not coming with a squishy seat- she pleads to her. "I know, its freezing. but would you care for a little ride?" she wiggles the broomstick, "I mean, you'll like it loads. It'll feel great! Please? It's not fair if you sit down on your arse while I get to fly fast around the area." it was an unfair advantage, "I mean, haven't you ever rode a broomstick? I never even knew you could ride a broomstick 'till I came here! And I love it, now! It makes me wonder why I never had met the stupid thing before I came," she frowned, "What was I saying? Oh, right- come on!" she sets the Quidditch utensil beneath her feet, using both her hands to grip onto her jacket, pulling her softly, "Let's go!" she shrieks energetically, "You're gonna regret it when you're older! Watch, you'll ask yourself why you never agreed to riding with me- see, I'll be with you so you don't die or break a neck, I'll try- and it's not going to be a good feeling," she finished in a huff, "Please? Or at least do it for the spirit of Christmas?"

Emmaline should've expected that Ivette would want her to get on the broom. She was that outgoing sort of type and Emmaline knew she wasn't going to let her sit around while Ivette had all the fun. Still, it surprised her when Ivette began to pull on her arm, insisting that she join her. Emmaline hadn't been on a broom in nine years and she didn’t really want to change that. Especially not so suddenly. Ivette fell beside her, and Emmaline bit her lower lip as Ivette began her pleading and convincing. Honestly, Emmaline really wouldn’t mind going for a ride. It was just the whole... suddenness of it that was worrying her. Ivette planned to take off, to throw caution to the wind. It was a frightening idea. Even more so upon her mentioning of dying or breaking her neck. Emmaline trusted Ivette completely, she was quite positive that all would be okay. It was just a bit... nerve-wracking. “Ivette,” she started and paused, trying to find her words. “I would love too, really I would... It’s just...” she sighed and shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
Ivette was right, of course. Sometime in the future, Emmaline would wonder why she’d never gotten back on a broom. Especially when it was with one of her closest friends, with somebody she could trust. Plus, it would be quite the Christmas surprise. Imagine the letter she could write to her parents, letting them know she’d gone flying again. Okay, she needed to stop worrying so much. She needed to stop over-thinking things and make up her mind! “Y’know what,” she pondered, a smile replacing her otherwise worried expression, “I think it’d be a nice Christmas gift.” Emmaline looked to the sky and then back at Ivette. “You’re right,” she nodded and eyed Ivette’s broom warily. “Yeah, you are most definitely right. Let’s do this.” Emmaline laughed at Ivette’s gentle tugging, at her energetic yelling, at the whole idea of this crazy about-to-happen adventure. If Ivette could throw caution to the wind, so could Emmaline.

She was full of glee. Then she could teach her what it was like to be overly joyous and oh so powerful up in the air. The fact that she had rarely flew on a broom had never escaped the young girl, and it would be someday, sometime, when it would be she that would pull her out of her wary revere. She had always wanted to do so, to be the first person to hopefully change her views on flying. Maybe Ivette wanted to make an impact on her life; of course she would not waver under the soil after her time on this Earth perished, she had to move around and make her decisions. Thus, she had wanted other people to remember her. Of course, others would see her as a complete and utter loony and ask what the bloody hell she was trying to accomplish with this attitude, but their opinions matter very little. Especially those with the male genitalia. Oh, forget about them completely- they were just horrible on account of being so dim-witted, all of them. Had her assumption been false, she would have gladly embraced them as easily as those who shared the same gender. But alas, it would take some much gained difficultly convincing her otherwise.
After the glee had subsided only a small fraction, the worry keeps in. "Are you sure you want to do this, then? Absolutely sure? Because- if I accidentally do something and you fall off- I know I'll be responsible, but I just want to make sure you aren't forcing yourself to say yes and make a big mistake," she continued on, "We need to be especially-" it gave her such a blush to speak the word, for it slurred her vocabulary, "clear. So, okay?" Honestly, though it was good to know she was willing to try it also didn't sound like the Emma she knew. Her back bends to retrieve her broom resting on the ground, and with a small grunt she hoists herself up with more force than necessary, "Are you really sure about this?" a large grin escaped her mouth.

The more Emmaline sat here, the more unsure she became. It was nerve-wracking. Did she really want too? Emmaline trusted Ivette, of course, but did she trust the broom or Ivette’s ability on it? Ivette was a fantastic flyer, though! Emmaline nibbled on her lower lip, thinking. If she did fall, all she would need was a quick trip to the Hospital Wing. If they stayed low to the ground and started off slow, it’d be safe, right? They could take it slowly, if Ivette was alright with that. Then they could gradually fly higher and faster. The reasonable and understandable ideas were starting to make her feel a little bit better. Emmaline wrung her hands together before clasping them in her lap. This was no time to fidget. It was time to make up her mind! Ivette was the best person to take her flying. Kade and Teddy would probably go to the extreme. Crazy loops and dives that would probably have her dead thanks to a heart attack or something .
Emmaline turned to look at Ivette and managed a meek smile. “I’m sure,” she answered and then paused. Ivette wanted to know if she was really sure. Emmaline let herself think for another minute. She trusted Ivette and she trusted her to rush them to the Hospital Wing if something were to happen. It would be fine, really. The more she reassured herself, the more she wanted to hop on the broom. It was something you had to do at least once in your lifetime. Her sprained ankle shouldn’t keep her from trying new things. Specifically things that most, if not all, wizards participated in. Emmaline nodded, determine. “I’m really sure,” she finally said. Emmaline stood and watched the broom for a moment as Ivette pulled herself up onto it. She had control of the broom. It wasn’t going to fly off and let Emmaline crash to the ground. Pushing any irrational fears out of her mind, Emmaline got onto the broom behind Ivette and wrapped her arms around the girl’s waist. She tried not to hold on too tightly, but just enough so that she had a good grip. Just being on the broom, still, was scary enough. “Okay,” she exhaled, “let’s do this.”
